- "Ooh, I don’t know what the last one is called — the Little Wobbly Stick of Liechtenstein?"
- ―Princess Theresa
Her Serene Highness Princess Theresa Gustava Bonaventura of Liechtenstein, Countess of Sponheim, and Protector-Extraordinary of the Cantons of Nîmes, also known as Theresa, is the Princess of Liechtenstein and Martin's love interest. She appears in series four's Vaduz and in Zürich.
She is portrayed by Matilda Ziegler, who also played minor roles in Boston.
In the Show[]
Theresa is introduced in Vaduz, where she books MJN Air to fly her and her younger brother King Maximilian to Fitton. She gets on well with Martin and does him a favour by dealing with an angry Carolyn, while he endears himself to her by trying to deflate Maxi's head. She reveals a shared interest in aviation, which leads to Martin's successful offer of a date at Duxford Air Museum.
In Xinzhou, Martin mentions a follow-up date at the Taj Mahal for the King of Sweden's private birthday party. Martin has, in turn, promised to take her to Croydon Airport Visitor's Centre.
She appears again in Zürich, where she acts as Martin's confidante and helps plan to win back Gerti.
Character[]
Theresa consistently surprises people by not acting or looking like a typical royal: both Martin and Douglas initially believe her call to them to be a prank call; Martin never considers that it might be her answering the door to Vaduz Castle; and Herc assumes that Arthur, when introducing her, has once again lost his grip on reality.[1] She takes this confusion in her stride and with only a little exasperation. She is practical and down-to-earth, willing to ride in the back of Arthur's van when Martin and Douglas won't.[1] However, she is very capable of acting like an imperious, entitled member of royalty by doing an impression of her mother.[2]
She has a sarcastic streak to her, teasing Martin by awarding him several of Liechtenstein's highest honours and referencing his offer to rescue her from a dragon while under the misapprehension that she was a prank caller.[2]
She has always been interested in aviation and wanted to be a pilot when she was younger.[2]
Theresa has five younger sisters and a younger brother, Maxi.[2]
