- "You know what they say: a good landing’s any landing you can walk away from; a great landing is one where they can reuse the plane."
- ―Douglas
Douz is the fourth episode of the first series of the BBC's Cabin Pressure, which was first broadcast on July 23, 2008.
Synopsis[]
Official synopsis for the episode Douz:[1]
- Carolyn finds she’s taken more on board than she meant to when the Scottish Cricket Team, a Frenchman and the Sahara Desert all run out of petrol...
Plot[]
MJN are asked by airline Panda Charters to pick up their pilots and the Scottish national cricket team from Douz. After landing with a hydraulics failure, Martin enters into a disagreement with airport manager Yves Jutteau over the mobilisation of a firetruck, which escalates to a penalty for a minor safety infringement.
Meanwhile, Carolyn discovers that Panda Charters have been bankrupted by Jutteau and that MJN will not be paid for this trip. Furious, she pays the extortionate bill, but when Martin lets slip that they are carrying Panda's pilots, Jutteau holds them responsible for the defunct company's debts of $12,000 and refuses them permission to take off. He also stations vehicles around them and drains their fuel in lieu of payment.
Carolyn privately begs Douglas for help, confessing that MJN is a loss-making business and that she can't afford to pay the debts. Together, Martin, Douglas, and Arthur plan their way out of their predicament: Martin suggests stealing fuel from the vehicles parked around them; Douglas recruits the cricket team to haul the firetruck out of their way; and at Arthur's suggestion, they simply drive G-ERTI down the desert highway to Kebili.
