"Is it unprofessional to tell a passenger that you once made a collage of her face out of pasta shapes?"
―Arthur

Cremona is the third episode of the first series of the BBC's Cabin Pressure, which was first broadcast on July 16, 2008.

Synopsis[]

Official synopsis for the episode Cremona:[1]

Arthur is struck dumb when a film star joins the flight, and Douglas has to disguise 30 knights of Camelot in a hurry.

Plot[]

MJN are chartered to fly film star Hester Macauley to Cremona. On arrival at Fitton airfield, she charms Douglas and especially Martin but angrily complains to Carolyn that she was accosted by overenthusiastic fans. Once airborne, she rudely rebuffs Arthur, who is also a fan of hers.

The crew are due to stay at the awful Garibaldi hotel, while Macauley is booked at the glamorous Excelsior. To impress Macauley, Martin books them all rooms at the Excelsior too. He quickly refunds them once she has left, but the receptionist doesn't let him refund the extravagant state room. He lies to Douglas to get him to go to the Garibaldi, then prepares to stay in the state room with Arthur.

Martin then receives an angry phone call from Macauley, who has been found once again by her rabid fans. Douglas, having discovered Martin's deception, proposes a scheme to solve their problems: he auctions to the fans the chance to meet Macauley, having them pose as her hotel staff; he then gives her the state room, paid for by the proceeds of the auction. In return, Douglas takes Macauley's old room at the Excelsior.

Carolyn, having unexpectedly invited the crew to dinner at the Excelsior, is angered to find no fans at the hotel. She reveals that she told the fans Macauley's location as revenge for her ill treatment of herself and Arthur and wanted to watch the chaos. Douglas is revealed to have come up with this scheme and turned it to his own advantage.

Cast[]

Trivia[]

Carolyn's claim that Norman Pace was a favourite passenger of hers was inspired by John Finnemore having heard from both a pilot and a poker player that the man was very nice indeed.[2]
