Abu Dhabi is the first episode of the first series of Cabin Pressure which was first broadcast on July 2, 2008.
Synopsis[]

- The town of Bristol, a cat and a thermostat combine to present Martin with a career-breaking crisis.
Plot[]
With the crew forced to hold at Fitton airfield, Douglas suggests faking an emergency to land quicker. Martin overrules him and forces a diversion to Bristol. On landing, he is reprimanded by Carolyn for diverting and for mistakenly leaving the cargo hold heater switched on. She then instructs the crew to take a sheik's possessions, including his cat, to Abu Dhabi.
Martin makes certain to turn the cargo hold heater off before takeoff. Shortly after takeoff, he realises that he has condemned the sheik's cat to death. He is reluctant to divert after the conversation with Carolyn, but after Douglas lets slip the situation to Arthur, he is practically forced by a pleading Arthur to land in Normandy to switch the heater back on. Despite having quarrelled with Martin's authority, Douglas helps Martin save face by faking an emergency.

Trivia[]
Abu Dhabi was based on the unaired pilot (no pun intended) episode, which involved different incarnations of both the cat and Hester Macauley, who later appeared in Cremona.[2]
